Frank Troyka began his career in 1984 in the Richardson ISD at Forest Meadow Junior High School where he was the Assistant Band Director, but it wasn't until 1999 that accepted his first position as the Director of Bands. This was at Cypress Falls High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. Under his leadership, the Cypress Falls Band was selected as a finalist in the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band Competition, a featured ensemble at the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival, a featured ensemble at the Midwest Clinic, and it is one of only two band programs world-wide to receive the 2005 Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The percussion ensemble was a showcase group at the 2004 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Nashville and captured five state championship titles in concert and marching percussion competition in the Texas Color Guard Circuit percussion division. In May of 2006, Mr. Troyka accepted the position as Director of Bands and Coordinator of Fine Arts at Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas. During his tenure there, the Berkner Band has advanced to the UIL State Marching Contest each of the four years it was eligible, finished First Runner-Up in TMEA Honor Band competition on two occasions, and returned to perform at the Midwest Clinic.

Frank has long history with the drum corps activity. He was a member of the rifle line of the 1980 Madison Scouts and, from 1979 through 1987, Frank was on the staff of the Railmen Drum & Bugle Corps of Omaha, Nebraska, where he was a key figure in that organization's evolution from parade unit to competitive field corps. Frank was the visual caption head for the Sky Ryders Drum & Bugle Corps in 1988 and 1989, and in 1991 he assumed the role of Staff Coordinator and helped re-establish its place among the elite Top 12 Finalists in Drum Corps International competition.

In addition to serving as System Blue Director of Education, Frank is an Educational Consultant with Conn-Selmer, Inc., and the coordinator of the Generation Next series of presentations for The Midwest Clinic. He was honored as the 2002-2003 Teacher of the Year at Cypress Falls High School and was honored with the 2010 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award. In 2014, Frank was a recipient of the Meritorious Achievement Award presented by the Texas Bandmasters Association. As of March 2016, Frank is a member of the Bands of America Hall of Fame.
